This season was our final year of tennis at MLC – and the sixth year that our team has played together. Because it was our last year, we focused more on having fun together as a social (rather than competitive) team and fortunately, our coach (Joel) was quite accommodating. One of the biggest challenges during this term was time management as we had exams midway through the term so maintaining commitment was crucial as it would have been quite easy to otherwise not attend training. However, I’m quite proud of our team’s dedication as we attended almost all the training sessions and showed good coordination as a team as we decided together which training sessions we wouldn’t attend to avoid wasting each other’s time.
While we did want to focus on having fun, we were hoping to see some results as a team and I think one of the biggest areas of improvement was communication during doubles. We also challenged ourselves by swapping doubles partners each week so we had to learn to play with each member of our team rather than growing complacent in fixed doubles partners. Additionally, I believe we displayed good communication skills with our opposition during matches when we umpired games and if there were any issues, we were able to resolve them effectively and appropriately.
Overall, I had a really enjoyable season of tennis and although we didn’t make it to the finals, I’m really proud of my team and it was an excellent way to finish tennis at MLC!
